Draft/Revision analogy

April 27, 2015

As the images to the left and below reveal, early draft work can be a murky yet integral part of the creative process. Like the first draft of a story or novel, getting the initial composition down is just the beginning. As the rough rendering of the crow suggests, a lot is accomplished in terms of the over-all character of the subject, but the real work is in the countless hours that go into the revision/refining that reveals the depth and detail of the image. I enjoy the process of layout, composition and revision in both writing and drawing. The trick is to know when it is done.
